She earned a degree in physics from the University of Alabama where both her parents were professors. After graduation, she was commissioned by the Air
Force as a Weather Officer and sent to Texas A&M to study meteorology. Next, an assignment to Germany turned into something more as she met her future husband there. Also an AF officer, Steve came with a ready-made family of two
boys when they married in 1987.
Ann went to Utah State for graduate work in Upper Atmospheric Science before
being stationed at Los Angeles AFB, working on the military's space program. From there, a short assignment at Bergstrom AFB (Austin, TX) was followed by
an assignment at Davis-Monthan in Tucson which become the retirement job for Steve and a change to the AF Reserves for Ann. The Reserves sent her to
temporary duty in Bosnia-i-Hercegovina twice, Saudi Arabia, and Norfolk NAS. This led to being called up for two years full-time at DM and then by her
joining the Washington Air National Guard, 116th Weather Flight. Ann served ten years in this unit, the last seven as its commander before retiring in
2011 after 28 years in the military. She had deployed several more times: Western Air Defense Sector after 9/11, Iraq, relief efforts in LA and MS after
Hurricane Katrina, Colorado Springs, Kosovo, and Germany.
During her career, Ann graduated from Officer Training School, Squadron Officer School, and Air Command and Staff College (all Air University), took a few business classes at USC, attended seminars at University of Arizona, and brushed up on math at Pima CC.
A year after Ann retired, her military friends passed on the news a retired AF officer was running for Congress and it happened to be Ann's district. She volunteered for the McSally campaign in 2012 and has been active in the local Republican Party and Tucson RW ever since, serving as Precinct Committeeman, State Committeeman, and various officer positions in TRW. Ann is also involved in various military organizations and represents the Military Officers Association of America on the City of Tucson's Veterans Advisory Council.
Ann lives in Tucson with her husband Steve, a Scottie, and a basset. Both step-sons and a daughter-in-law live in the area and have a variety of cats
and dogs.
